He is the personnel employed by a banking institution to manage the department of credit and make decisions on issues such as acceptable risks to be considered and credit limits to be given to particular clients. The scope of credit management in a financial institution includes the following. In carrying out the above functions, a credit management department in Chase bank has come across come several challenges that need to be addressed. In regards to control of doubtful debt, the bank has had a problem in preventing the customers from defaulting their payments. This has the amounts of doubtful and bad debts significantly. This has had an adverse effect on the bank financial stability. In setting the credit floors and ceiling for the different clients, the bank has encountered several challenges. Most customers have been observed only to have active accounts just before and during the period they are advancing a loan facility. Once a loan has been advanced to them; their accounts become dormant. This has caused difficulties in setting the credit limits as most customers are not deemed to be reliable. Adherence to bank policies with regards to credit management has also posed a challenge to credit and risk management
